So, where do I begin?
Sumner Academy was my whole world for five years of my life, and to this day it remains an integral part of who I am. This site started out as a place for me to post my memories of SAS, unedited and unrestricted. As a courtesy, here are answer to some of the questions that people frequently ask:
Why are you doing this? Shouldn't the district or school manage this site?
I'm doing it only because no one else did it first, and if I hadn't, we would have lost the domain name to someone else.Should the school itself have it's own domain? Sure, they can register SUMNERACADEMY.EDU, and the district should be able to host it for them. There are plenty of options for them if they want a more prominent domain name other than the one they have at http://kancrn.kckps.k12.ks.us/sumner/.
How do I make a donation to the Sumner Academy Alumni Foundation?
The SAAF was started almost ten years ago by some of my fellow class members. I don't know if the foundation still exists as a legal entity, but I'd be willing to create a submission form for them as well as an account on the system if they want. My guess is that they're busy with life just like the rest of us are. More details as they become available.
Is ____________ still teaching or working at Sumner? What ever happened to ___________?
I honestly have no way of knowing. For details, call, FAX, or write the school yourself:
Sumner Acadmey of Arts and Science
1610 North 8th Street
Kansas City, Kansas 66101
(913) 627-7200
(913) 627-7205 FAXPlease remember that, for privacy reasons, the administration will not divulge any personal information regarding any student, faculty member, or employee, past or present. The general practice is that the school will take your contact information and forward it to the individual for you. From there, it is up to that individual whether or not they wish to establish contact with you.
I heard Sumner is closing down. Is that true?
No. There are no signs to suggest that the school is in any way closing. Things are constantly changing at the school level, the district level, and the community level, but these changes do not mean that the school will close. Sumner Academy is an important resource for the community and will continue to be for many years to come.
Whoops! I wanted the website for the Sumner Academy private school in Gallatin, TN. How do I get there?
How do I get my child into Sumner Academy?
Visit the district's website at http://kancrn.kckps.k12.ks.us/sumner/ for more details.
Feel free to forward any other questions you have to me at sumner@sumneracademy.com.
